An infrastructure project doesn't have the same team from start to finish. A few people arrive at mobilisation, the team doubles or triples at the peak of the works, and only a few remain again at handover. The need for cars follows the same curve, even though the company's fleet usually stays the same.
Your car needs follow the works schedule
The safest starting point is the project schedule. For each phase, note how many teams are in the field, where they work and how long the phase lasts. These three figures tell you how many cars you need and for how many months.
- MobilisationFew people, lots of trips: inspections, setting up the site, the first teams.
- Peak of the worksThe most teams in the field at the same time. This is usually where you run short of cars.
- Completion and handoverTeams withdraw gradually. Surplus cars become a cost with no use.
How to estimate accurately
- How many people are in the field in each phase and how many fit in one car.
- The distance between the team's base and the site, and how often the trips are made.
- Whether teams work in shifts or at several locations in parallel.
- What type of car the terrain calls for: a passenger car for travel between cities, an SUV for rougher roads.
- How firm the deadlines are: phases that may slip need a margin.
What you gain with 1–12 month terms
A subscription lets you align cars with the phases: a small number of cars for the whole project and extra cars only for the peak months. At the end of each period you review what you need, depending on how the project has progressed.
Projects in other cities
For teams mobilised far from head office, what matters most is that the cars are available where the work starts. Tell us in your quote request where the project is and when each phase starts, and we'll agree the place and time of handover together.
What to prepare before your quote request
- The phase schedule, with estimated start and end dates.
- The number of cars for each phase and their type.
- The project locations.
- The contact person who coordinates the teams' mobility.
